Unraveling the Tapestry of Silence and Separation: Manoj Bajpayee Opens Up About the Intimate Dynamics with Anurag Kashyap, From Collaborative Brilliance to Prolonged Estrangement
Manoj Bajpayee and Anurag Kashyap are two eminent filmmakers of India’s entertainment industry and both these personalities have a professional bond along with emotional distance. While they came together effectively in path-breaking features such as ‘Satya’ (1998) and ‘Shool’ (1999), the queer absence of any reported link between them was evident in the decade that followed 2000 and started 2011. Subsequently, Bajpayee remained quiet for quite some time until revealing details about the causes of the long-standing feud.
During an exclusive interview with Bollywood Bubble, Bajpayee revealed the crux of the problem area. ”In one area, there was a misunderstanding that we never discussed, and now because of social media, things become so big to an extent that embarrassment happens, and then things get exaggerated,” he noted. He explained that they had some time off during the period and while they were on break both he and Kashyap followed their own paths. Bajpayee felt that there was a change in the approach that Kashyap was taking in his filmmaking though as per Bajpayee Kashyap might have felt that his career was deteriorating. As a result, they started separating from each other, and their paths did not cross anymore.

The two have worked together before, and their entailment history shows that they are not just in harmony but also out of tune at times. The duo started with the ‘Satya’ which Kashyap wrote the script of and Bajpayee embodied the famous character of Bhiku Mhatre. This success continued with “Shool,” another crime oriented film which was also successful. Yet, the pair worked independently for more than a decade before reuniting in ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ which is set in 2012 where Bajpayee’s Sardar Khan left an indelible impact.
Although Bajpayee and Kashyap had some collaborations, they did not work together after ‘Gangs of Wasseypur.’ They continue to develop their individual career paths in the film industry. In his forthcoming films, “Bhaiyya Ji,” “Despatch,” and “The Fable”, Bajpayee promises his versatility. Kashyap on the other hand waiting for “Kennedy” and is preparing for his next film direction.
