Maharashtra Village Renames Itself “Hero Chi Wadi” in a Heartfelt Tribute to Irrfan Khan, Honoring His Philanthropic Efforts and Lasting Impact on the Local Community

The Bollywood actor Irfan Khan, who was well-loved by his fans and all those whose lives were touched by him, remains fondly remembered by many. There have been many ways of honoring his soul, and one such deeply poignant tribute has been paid by this village from Maharashtra. A locality has been aptly renamed Hero Chi Wadi in memory of the actor, meaning Neighborhood of a Hero, in the Igatpuri area of Nashik district. This kind and touching act was a testimony to the great regard the local masses had for Khan, who had added much to their lives.

Patryacha Wada was so named to honor Khan’s commitment and charity. Khan owned a farmhouse adjacent to the ancient Trilangwadi fort, and in about 15 years had grown very close to the villagers. His interaction with the local community was not only about land but it was his altruistic and kind deeds that made the deepest impressions. Besides donating an ambulance, his gifts included school supplies, books, computers, raincoats, and sweaters for the children, and his help was more than just material.

Khan contributed to the construction of school buildings, among others, thereby bettering the educational facilities in the village. His philanthropy was, therefore, complemented with a personal way of relating to the community. The villagers recalled how Khan would, with all simplicity, sit down with them, eat with them, jam with the kids on his guitar, and engage them in intellectual discussions. He had an open-door policy; one would hardly feel a visitor in his house; he was very much a family member among them.

The villagers demonstrated their love for Khan by going to great lengths to watch his movies. “Whenever we needed him, he stood by us” said Gorakh Bodke, member of the Igatpuri Zilla Parishad. That appreciation speaks so passionately about how much Khan changed their lives, not only being a donor but also being a friend and a guide.

His passing in April 2020, after a gallant fight with a neuroendocrine tumor, left many in mourning. He is survived by his wife Sutapa and two children, Babil and Ayan. Their remembrance is still alive through his generous deeds. The renaming of Patryacha Wada as Hero Chi Wadi is a reminder of his everlasting impact on the people of Igatpuri, ensuring that his brave acts will remain in memory for ages to come.
