In a recent episode of Koffee with Karan Season 8, superstar Sunny Deol shared some surprising insights into the clash between his mega-hit movie “Gadar 2” and Akshay Kumar’s “OMG 2.” The clash took place on August 11, and Sunny Deol had a candid conversation with host-director Karan Johar about the dilemma.
Sunny Deol’s Request to Akshay Kumar
Sunny Deol revealed that he spoke with Akshay Kumar before the release of both their films. He requested Akshay to consider changing the release date of “OMG 2” to avoid a box office showdown. Unfortunately, Akshay Kumar explained that the decision was not in his hands due to the studio’s involvement, making it impossible to shift the release date.

Sunny’s Thoughts on the Clash
When asked about his feelings regarding the clash, Sunny Deol said, “I thought, ‘Okay, my film is releasing, and I haven’t had a hit in a long time. I didn’t want anyone else’s film to release alongside mine. But you can’t stop others. It did hurt me, but then I thought, ‘Does it matter?’ Let’s just go with it. In the end, both films performed well.”
Sunny’s Discussion with Akshay
During his appearance on Koffee with Karan, Sunny Deol confirmed that he did talk to Akshay about the clash before the release. He explained, “Of course, I asked him. I said, ‘Please don’t do it if it’s in your control.’ But he told me, ‘No, it’s the studio’s decision.’ They believed that two films could be released simultaneously. I said, ‘Okay, go ahead.’ I could only request, and I couldn’t do more than that.”
Box Office Results
According to a report by Sacnilk.com, “Gadar 2,” which is the second highest-grossing Hindi film ever, earned a staggering ₹40.1 crore nett in India on its opening day. The movie’s total box office collection in India reached ₹525.7 crore nett, while its global earnings soared to ₹686 crore. On the other hand, “OMG 2” opened at ₹10.26 crore nett at the domestic box office, as reported by Sacnilk.com, and went on to collect ₹151.16 crore nett in India.
About “Gadar 2”
Released on August 11, “Gadar 2” is the sequel to the 2001 blockbuster “Gadar: Ek Prem Katha.” The movie brought back the incredible team, with Anil Sharma returning as the director and Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel reprising their iconic roles as Tara Singh and Sakeena. Anil Sharma’s son, Utkarsh, also returned as the son of Tara and Sakeena. Simrat Kaur and Luv Sinha also featured in this period drama.
