Boney Kapoor confirms Mom 2 with Khushi Kapoor, honoring Sridevi’s legacy
The silver jubilee festivities of IIFA 2025 commenced on a momentous and touching note when veteran producer Boney Kapoor announced that the sequel to Sridevi’s last film, Mom, is officially on the cards-featuring his younger daughter, Khushi Kapoor. Released in 2017, the original film was a captivating drama about a mother’s ruthless pursuit of her daughter’s justice, which had earned Sridevi a posthumous National Award for Best Actress.
On the green carpet, Boney Kapoor spoke highly of both his daughters, Khushi and Janhvi Kapoor, emphasizing their efforts to establish themselves in the industry after their legendary mother. “I have watched all of Khushi’s films-Archies, Loveyappa, and Nadaaniyaan. I am planning a film with her too after No Entry. It could be Mom 2. She is trying to follow in her mother’s footsteps. Her mother was a top star across all languages she worked in. I hope Khushi and Janhvi achieve the same level of perfection,” he said.
Sridevi remains one of the most critically acclaimed actors to have played the title role in this film, Mom. This film, by Ravi Udyawar, showcased her talent and dedication to her craft. Her performance as a mother seeking justice for her daughter awoke the conscience of millions. Meanwhile, Khushi Kapoor’s latest film, Nadaaniyaan, is streaming on Netflix. The film, produced under Dharmatic Entertainment with Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta, and Somen Mishra, features an altogether new ensemble cast, including Ibrahim Ali Khan, Suniel Shetty, Mahima Chaudhry, Dia Mirza, and Jugal Hansraj.
Nadaaniyaan narrates the story of Pia Jai Singh (Khushi Kapoor), a South Delhi socialite who lives on the premise of love straight out of a script. She crosses paths with Arjun Mehta (Ibrahim Ali Khan), a not-so-ambitious middle-class overachiever attempting to get elected as the school’s debate team captain. With Pia persuading Arjun to be her pretentious boyfriend for an elaborate romantic charade, their lives take an unprecedented direction with real feelings arising amidst fake ones.
