Amitabh Bachchan Addresses Misogynistic Comment on Kaun Banega Crorepati 16: Corrects Contestant for Calling Unmarried Women a ‘Burden’
It was a memorable scene when during one of the episodes of Kaun Banega Crorepati 16 Amitabh Bachchan did not mince words when he advised a contestant disrespectfully talking about unmarried women. The event occurred when the contestant Krishna Selukar, who admitted that he failed to find employment after the COVID 19 lock down and had a background of being an engineer implied that he was in the same position as an unmarried woman. He said, “If I say an unmarried lady is a burden to her family then after an age an unemployed man is also a burden.

The contestant unknowingly added to this perception and Mr. Amitabh Bachchan, one of India’s most dignified figures on screen, put a halt to this by disputing the statement. As an intervention he said ‘Allow me to say something; a lady can never be a burden to her family, she is always an asset.’ This was a positive reinforcement on the part of the show for the changing of the stereotype and respecting women.

Kaun Banega Crorepati is an Indian game show and has been aired since 2000 being originally and mainly hosted by Amitabh Bachchan and for the third season the host was Shahrukh Khan. It’s new season which went on air on Sony Television this month, had Bachchan speaking the language of the heart to the audience by thanking them for their support right from the beginning of this show.
