Karan Johar Hails ‘Adolescence’ as Essential Viewing for Modern Parents
Karan Johar expressed his feelings about the Netflix miniseries Adolescence by calling it a “wake-up loud call” for parents who need to handle the digital age challenges of raising their children. Johar who has twins explained that textbooks and podcasts provide limited value to parenting preparation but parents should work to be their superior selves since their habits and principles naturally shape their children.
Johar observed the profound differences between his childhood based on dialogue and the digital communication methods that young people use now. Books were a prominent feature of my childhood as people used to consume information through written pages rather than digital media updates of reels. The way I grew up focused on self-discovery but the current generation surrounds themselves with constant comparisons. The current “pandemic” involves the overwhelming social media presence that negatively impacts young minds yet remains unappreciated as an actual crisis according to him.
During his interview Johar praised “Adolescence” as a powerful parental training experience that handles vital subjects together with bullying along with misconceptions of masculinity and parental blindness toward children’s behaviors. The four revolutionary long shots in the show deeply touched him both as someone professionally involved in filmmaking and as a parent.
British writer Jack Thorne and director Philip Barantini together with Stephen Graham formed a creative team to make Adolescence which stands as a British crime drama TV series. In a four-part miniseries the arrest of schoolboy Jamie Miller reveals the story of his murder of a fellow student when he was just 13 years old. Storytelling reaches its peak in this production because the creators use one uninterrupted filming sequence throughout all four episodes.
The March 13, 2025 premiere of the show led to substantial critical recognition of its direction together with writing and acting skills which averaged praise from viewers across India and every corner of the globe.
