Kangana Ranaut: The Central Board of Film Certification was forced to withdraw its certification
After facing several postponements, Kangana Ranaut’s controversial first solo directorial venture Emergency has now been assigned a fresh release date. The actor-filmmaker announced that the team has now obtained the censor certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), following the film’s delay from its original September 6 release date.
New release date announcement
On Monday morning, Kangana posted a new Emergency poster on her social media, showcasing herself as ex-Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, Vishak Nair as her son Sanjay Gandhi, Anupam Kher as Jai Prakash Narayan from Janata Party, Shreyas Talpade as ex-PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and Milind Soman as Field Marshall Sam Manekshaw. In the caption, it was stated, “On January 17, 2025 – The incredible story of the country’s most influential female leader and the event that changed India’s future. #Emergency – Premieres exclusively in theaters on 01.17.2025!”
Issues with certification
Emergency has been involved in disputes for a while, including receiving criticism from multiple Sikh organizations. The Central Board of Film Certification was forced to withdraw its certification for the film due to the objections raised, causing a delay in its initial release. During that period, Ranaut had criticized the CBFC for delaying certification, describing it as “extremely disheartening”.

Kangana’s Disappointment
Kangana had conveyed her dissatisfaction, stating, “I am aware of how this film was created.” I received no assistance from the movie business. It was produced with a substantial budget. Zee, the partners, and I formed Emergency, but due to the delay in its release, all of us are facing a significant financial loss. Delaying the release results in a disadvantage for everyone involved. I believe it is the duty of the Censor Board to ensure the prompt release of this film”.
