John Wick Chapter 4 Review- Not Just A Glorified Action Movie
Keanu Reeves in John Wick: Chapter 4 is set to floor you
After much waiting, the film is here and ready to blow your mind. The production of the film had been delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
A Stellar Performance by the Cast
Directed by Chad Stahelski, who also directed the previous three instalments, the film features Keanu Reeves reprising his role as the titular character, an ex-hitman seeking vengeance for the murder of his beloved dog.
To say that all the actors in the film did a good job would be an understatement. What really grips you during the film’s duration is the performance of Donnie Yen, Hiroyuki Sanada, and Shamier Anderson.
Well-Executed Action Sequences
How can you watch a John Wick movie and not expect action? It is safe to say that out of the 169 minutes running of the film, more than 50% was just action. However, each scene was shot brilliantly and executed even better. With John Wick leaving a mountain of bodies, you can expect that each shot and each punch landed someone dead. Donnie Yen as Caine had the most epic fight scene, and to watch him display his strengths with such finesse was extraordinary.
Striking Location
Five minutes into the movie and you see a shooting scene in the desert, cut to the next stage in the concrete jungle of New York. Even with constant changes in the film’s setting, the movie has managed to be a great cumulation of insanely shot scenes in the most beautiful location. The dark underlighting and sombre effect of the movie really help to bring the ‘feel’ of the movie. It is a testament to what the movie entails and the deep and thriving world of violence.
Continuation of the Franchise
The good news for all John Wick lovers is that a fifth instalment of the franchise will be coming. The usual track with franchise movies is that the plot and story are usually lost after the first movie. But this was not the case with ‘John Wick: Chapter 4’. From the first punch to the last, the movie has maintained consistency and given us an extraordinary film.
Maybe it is just the love for Keanu Reeves or the fact that he is undoubtedly one of the finest action heroes in Hollywood that make the movie worth every penny. The 169 minutes at first did seem like a stretch for an action movie, but by the end of it, you would conclude that each minute was worth it.
Pro Tip: Watch the first three instalments before you go for the fourth one. Though you will understand a few things, you will be a little lost without context. And these movies are best enjoyed when you know the previous plots.
John Wick: Chapter 4 will also be released in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu in India.
