In an exclusive interview with News18 Showsha, John reflected on his journey, saying that while he had proved his acting skills already with Madras Café and Parmanu, The Diplomat almost redefined him. “I thought I had done a decent job in Madras Café and Parmanu, but The Diplomat has been a quantum leap for me as an actor,” John narrated. The film required the audience to redefine their views about his acting skills and revive directors’ and producers’ perspectives about him beyond the normal action-heroism role that he embodies.

The actor from Pathaan and Satyameva Jayate remarked on how he is often seen in Bollywood, adding that he was typically thought to be a macho guy from movies such as Dostana or Jim. However, with The Diplomat, he feels he has given filmmakers a variety of options to work with. “I have created a buffet for my directors. They can now pick what they want from me as an actor. I’m available for all kinds of roles,” he elaborated.

He was in favor of a National Award nomination for The Diplomat, like Vicky Donor and Madras Café before him. “Vicky Donor and Madras Café won the National Award, and I would like to say The Diplomat should be there too. It is a film with so many reasons to be recognized. It is a film for India,” he said with affirmation.

He also recognized the contributions of director Shivam Nair for guiding him through the film and thanked the audiences for their appreciation. “Whenever a normal moviegoer of mine goes into the cinema and comes out saying that John has done a good job, I feel that’s the biggest reward for me,” John commented. With his new-found confidence, he is now looking forward to doing more diverse roles and gaining recognition as an actor.
