JioHotstar launches, offering free content with ads and premium plans starting at ₹149

Reliance Industries JioHotstar is the result of the merger of JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar, The new OTT network intends to change streaming in India

 JioHotstar, the  combination of JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar, . The new OTT network hopes to revolutionise streaming in India by providing all of its content for free, although with advertisements. Subscription options starting at ₹149 offer an ad-free experience.

Existing subscribers of JioCinema or Disney+ Hotstar will be automatically upgraded to JioHotstar’s premium plan (₹499 per quarter) until their current subscription expires. If a user has active subscriptions on both platforms, the one with the longer validity will be prioritized. After the existing plan ends, users can choose from JioHotstar’s new subscription packs.

JioHotstar combines the vast libraries of JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar, offering web series, movies, TV shows, regional content, and sports. It also includes international content from HBO, Peacock, and Paramount. A new vertical, Sparks, will feature creator-led mini-series, aiming to attract audiences with fresh and engaging formats.

The platform will continue streaming major sports events, including the Indian Premier League (IPL), which JioCinema has held the rights to since 2023. Sanjog Gupta, CEO of Sports at JioStar, emphasized the platform’s commitment to delivering immersive sports experiences.

Kiran Mani, CEO of Digital at JioStar, highlighted JioHotstar’s vision to make premium entertainment accessible to all Indians. The platform uses AI-driven recommendations and supports streaming in over 19 languages, ensuring personalized content for diverse audiences. Kevin Vaz, CEO of Entertainment at JioStar, added that JioHotstar aims to set new benchmarks in digital-first entertainment by being inclusive and audience-centric.

Subscription Plans:

Mobile Plan: ₹149 for three months or ₹499 annually, allowing access on one mobile device.

Super Plan: ₹299 for three months or ₹899 annually, offering access on two devices (mobile, web, and supported living room platforms).

Premium Plan: ₹499 for three months or ₹1,499 annually, providing ad-free viewing (except for live sports) on up to four devices.

With its vast content library, innovative features, and affordable plans, JioHotstar is set to become a major player in India’s OTT space, making premium entertainment accessible to millions.
