Jaya Bachchan, the former Bollywood actor and the present Member of Parliament addressed by the name of her husband recently. The occurrence was in Rajya Sabha in the on-going Budget session.

It was just recently in one of the weddings of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant, Aishwarya Rai walked with her daughter Aaradhya and posed for the media while the rest of the Bachchan family including her husband Abhishek was together raising speculations.
Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh referred to Jaya Bachchan as, ‘Shrimati Jaya Amitabh Bachchan ji, please.’ The Samajwadi Party MP was not happy with this form calling her so and said, ‘Sir, mere ko Jaya Bachchan bolte hi enough hota (Calling me Jaya Bachchan is sufficient sir).’

When Singh produced records that she is registered as Jaya Amitabh Bachchan the actor-parliamentarian flared up and said: “This is some new strategy men want women to identify themselves by their husband’s name. Women have no identity, they have no accomplishments, no identity of their own. This is this new trend that has begun…”

Particularly, through social media, Jaya has been very vocal on issues of such nature and has severally come out in the public to say that like any other woman out there in the world she also has her own identify apart from having to use the name Jaya Jemain. While some of them stood up for her, others logically reminded that she filed documents with the name of Jaya Amitabh Bachchan.
We may have different opinions with her but she is Jaya Bhaduri first then she became Jaya Bachchan.
She has always maintained a strong sense of self apart from her spouse. She used to be more well-known than her spouse, in fact. Thus, if she had chosen to use her real identity, she could have easily reached the Parliament,” someone commented on X (previously Twitter). “She is not incorrect in any way, by the way,” another person on social media remarked.
