The Inspiration Behind Badmaash

Mouni Roy’s love for Indian cuisine is what sparked the idea of opening Badmaash. In an interview, she said, “I love Indian food. Whenever I travel for work, I look for Indian restaurants everywhere. It resonated with me. I truly believe that we don’t have as many good Indian restaurants, especially in Bengaluru and Mumbai, so it was a great opportunity to have something like Badmaash.”

Her inspiration also came from her café-hopping routine while traveling. “Whenever I travelled, I would always sit at a café with my book, a coffee, and a croissant. That ritual made me imagine owning a café of my own. It didn’t work out back then, but thanks to my husband and his best friends at VRO, I got the opportunity to own a restaurant — and I jumped at it,” she shared.

Mouni Roy’s Passion for Fusion Indian Food

For Mouni, Badmaash is more than just a business; it’s a passion project that reflects her taste and creativity. When she launched the restaurant in 2023, she expressed her excitement by saying, “I am thrilled to open Badmaash, a restaurant that represents my love for progressive Indian cuisine. The menu at Badmaash is an absolute delight, and I am excited to share this culinary journey with everyone.”

Her personal favorites include the Stir-fried Mushroom Milagu with Shimeji Crisps, a dish that balances Indian spices with a modern presentation. The restaurant’s signature drink, the Mounilicious cocktail, is another crowd favorite — a unique blend with a hint of curry leaves, offering an unexpected yet delightful flavor twist.
