First Contact Day: Technically, we will commemorate our initial First Contact Day on April 5, 2063. Every devoted Trekkie is aware that on this day, humans and Vulcans will have their first encounter! Still, fans have been honoring First Contact Day since 1996 – the year the concept was presented in the movie, “Star Trek: First Contact.” The ideal way to commemorate this day is by indulging in everything “Star Trek” and revisiting our beloved films and episodes with fellow Trekkies!
Background of First Contact Day
Established in 1966 by Gene Roddenberry, “Star Trek” is a cherished American television and film franchise that has captivated the imagination of countless generations of sci-fi fans. The story revolves around the escapades of Captain James T. Kirk and his team aboard the starship USS Enterprise.
In contrast to many holidays, First Contact Day is a day in the future’s history! Trekkies think that April 5, 2063, will be a significant date in human history. It is on this specific day that scientist Zefram Cochrane successfully reaches warp drive in his Phoenix ship. Just moments after the groundbreaking launch, Vulcans show up at the facility close to Bozeman, Montana. First Contact Day also celebrates the accomplishments of Dr. Cochrane.
