Film Editor Nishad Yusuf, Known for Kanguva and Thallumaala, Found Dead at Home

Nishad Yusuf, the renowned film editor best known for his work on Malayalam films like Kanguva and Thallumaala, has died at age 43. Yusuf was found dead at his residence in Kochi’s Panampilly Nagar early Wednesday morning, October 30. Police have launched an investigation into his death, though no official cause has been released.

According to media reports, Yusuf’s body was discovered in his apartment around 2 a.m., with local police confirming that they are examining the circumstances surrounding his death. While initial reports in regional media have speculated that the cause may be suicide, police have not confirmed this, emphasizing that all possibilities are being considered as part of the investigation.

Yusuf, a native of Harippad, Kerala, has been celebrated for his contributions to both Malayalam and Tamil cinema, playing a significant role in shaping the modern style of editing in the region’s film industry. His work on *Thallumaala* earned him the prestigious Kerala State Film Award for Best Editor in 2022, adding to his growing recognition in the industry. He was also known for editing acclaimed films like Unda, One, Saudi Vellakka, and Adios Amigos.

In a tribute, the Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA) Directors’ Union expressed their condolences through an official Facebook post, calling Yusuf’s death a great loss for the Malayalam film industry. The post, shared in Malayalam, honored Yusuf’s impact on the evolving landscape of cinema in Kerala.

Most recently, Yusuf had signed on for his largest project to date, Kanguva, a pan-India film featuring Suriya and Bobby Deol, set to release on November 14. The film has generated significant buzz and was anticipated to be a milestone in Yusuf’s career. In addition to Kanguva, he was working on the highly anticipated Bazooka, starring Malayalam superstars Mohanlal and Mammootty, as well as Alappuzha Gymkhana.

News of Yusuf’s death has sent shockwaves through the film community, with colleagues and fans expressing grief over the unexpected loss.
