Ed Sheeran Shares Video of Indian Auto Driver Grooving To His Song!

Recently on a tour in India, renowned British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran entertained worldwide fans with a lovely video showing him riding an auto-tuk-tuk with a driver named Rakesh. The unreleased song Azizam was playing as Rakesh joyously danced to the music with pure energy and joy. Sheeran captioned the video on social media: “When I was touring in India I played Azizam to my taxi driver who was taking me around the city. He was a whole vibe; big up Rakesh.”

The video gained quick traction, with fans filling the comment section to praise Rakesh’s spirited dancing and his resemblance to eminent film director SS Rajamouli. Many users amusingly questioned, “SS Rajamouli, is that you?”, commenting on how closely the auto driver resembled one of the most iconic directors with blockbusters such as `Baahubali’ and `RRR.’

The song that was playing in the background was Azizam, one of the songs from Sheeran’s forthcoming eighth studio album entitled Play. In Persian, Azizam literally means “my dear” or “my beloved.” It is heavily influenced by the exhilarating dance beat, Persian sounds, and Sheeran’s fantastic endeavor of immersing himself into different cultural sounds. Several Iranian and Indian artists recorded it together, bringing in traditional instruments-the ghatam, daf, santoor, hammered dulcimer, and lute-which enhance the track with rich, authentic texture.

Sheeran’s linkage with India is quite dated. Early 2025 saw the singer tour across several Indian cities-Pune, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bengaluru, and Delhi-NCR-under the label of his ‘Mathematics Tour’. Concerts were not the only occasions where Sheeran had stayed within India; he submerged himself in the culture, working with Indian artists and even trying to perform street gigs on the move, such as one in Bengaluru that sought to do a flash mob-style concert. This concert had later been canceled because of security concerns due to the big crowd.

The share of the clip of Rakesh performing Azizam spotlights not only how globally relatable Sheeran’s music is but also reminds us of spontaneous and joyful interaction that occurs in-cross cultural barriers. The song is eagerly anticipated to release officially on April 4, 2025, under Sheeran’s own Gingerbread Man Records. This song and the rest of the album will see Sheeran return to pop music after his acoustic albums-”-” and ”Autumn Variations” released in 2023.

To summarize, Ed Sheeran’s intimate connection with local cultures during his tours, as demonstrated by his engagement with Rakesh, is an emotional resounding series of experiences for his fans all over the globe. Such moments help in promoting appreciation for different cultures while reminding us of the power of music to create unity no matter the geographical or language barrier.
