Delhi Police Tracks Four, Hunts Mastermind in Deepfake Ordeal
In a disconcerting turn of events, four individuals have been identified for their involvement in uploading a deepfake video featuring popular actor Rashmika Mandana. The pursuit is now focused on capturing the mastermind behind this malicious act, as the Delhi Police intensifies efforts to bring the perpetrator to justice.
Hunt for Deepfake Architect Intensifies
The initial lead, however, revealed that the four suspects were mere uploaders, not the creators of the deepfake content. Authorities are diligently working to trace the primary conspirator responsible for orchestrating this disturbing incident. Meta, the company overseeing major social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, played a pivotal role in tracking down three out of the four suspects. Yet, the investigation hit a roadblock when it was discovered that the accused had tampered with their online accounts, deleting crucial information that could aid authorities in locating them. Undeterred, the Delhi Police’s cyber experts are persistently searching for the main culprit behind the creation and dissemination of the deepfake video.
The challenges mounted as the deepfake videos featuring Rashmika Mandana were likely posted using fabricated identities, further complicated by the use of a Virtual Private Network (VPN) to obscure the perpetrator’s digital trail. Despite the hurdles, the Delhi Police remains resolute in its pursuit of justice.
The saga began a month ago when the Delhi Police registered a First Information Report (FIR) at the Special Cell concerning the AI-generated deepfake video of actress Rashmika Mandana. The Delhi Commission for Women had also raised concerns and sought appropriate action against the circulation of the video on various social media platforms.
