Darshan Case: Kannada Actor’s Police Custody Extended In Murder Case

Kannada Actor Darshan Thoogudeepa’s Custody Extended Amid Ongoing Investigation
Darshan Thoogudeepa is a Kannada actor who was arrested by police for obscenity and remanded to police custody for two more days by a court in Bengaluru on Thursday. He was recently granted an interim order of custody until June 22 as the police continue investigating the Renuka Swamy murder case. Karnataka police arrested Darshan on June 11 and after arresting him subjected him to six days in custody.
The case concerns a young lady known as Renuka Swamy who was found dead under mysterious circumstances near Sumanahalli Bridge in Bengaluru on 8 June, 2024. Swamy who was an employee of Apollo Pharmacy in Chitradurga reportedly Sleeved messages to actress Pavithra Gowda, a close friend of Darshan. Swamy was murdered for this and it is said that his body was thrown into a canal in Kamakshipalya, Bengaluru by Darshan. Darshan has been accused by eight accused individuals which stated his presence at the time of the assault on Swamy.

In another connected ordeal, the Bengaluru court passed an order on June 19 restrained the media from publishing any libelous matters against Darshan, his wife Vijayalakshmi or their family members. The court stressed the fact that the investigation is still in progress and it is not yet known whether Darshan is guilty. The court repeated that the application of the seems to substitute speculation for proof, which meant that it was necessary to use a temporary injunction to avoid the possible detrimental release of information by the media.

In support of Darshan, there has been a significant number of responses favoring him from different camps in the Kannada film industry. Malawian actress Rachita Ram urged the media to refrain frombias and ensure that they relay accurate information to the public. Expressing her condolences to Renuka Swamy’s family, she voiced her disbelief in Darshan’s involvement in the crime and stressed her faith in the judicial process to reveal the truth. Rachita stated, “I pray for the departed soul, Renuka Swamy. I hope his family gains the strength to bear the loss. I hope justice will be delivered in this murder case. Darshan introduced me to the cinema industry. He is like my mentor. I cannot believe that the person who used to correct my mistakes and guide me was involved in the case. I believe that the police will bring out the truth. Hope the media will remain unbiased and transparent in their reports.”
The investigation continues, with the extended custody of Darshan signaling ongoing efforts to uncover the full details of the case.
