Bollywood director and choreographer Farah Khan has found herself in trouble following her recent statement regarding the festival of Holi. A case has been lodged against her by social media influencer Vikash Fhatak, also popularly known as Hindustani Bhau, for apparently disrespecting Hindu sentiments.

According to IANS reports, Hindustani Bhau filed the complaint at Khar Police Station in Mumbai, requesting strict legal action. The complaint invokes sections 196, 299, 302, and 353 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Bhau’s lawyer pointed out that such statements could cause communal disharmony and must be taken seriously.

What Did Farah Khan Say About Holi?

Farah Khan, who is currently appearing on Celebrity MasterChef, recently made a comment regarding Holi that has not been well received with most people. She reportedly called Holi a festival of ‘chhapris’ (a colloquial term usually used to refer to flashy or ruffian types).

Her very words were: “Saare chhapri logon ka favourite festival Holi hota hai.” The remark has drawn widespread outrage among netizens, with many others accusing her of showing disrespect to a sacred Hindu festival.

Public Backlash Against Farah Khan

The moment the comment became viral, social media flooded with backlash. Many users came down hard upon Farah for making derogatory comments on Holi. Quite a few demanded to know why she used that language for something so widely enjoyed. One person wrote, “Do you ever comment on any of your celebrations? Disgusting.” Someone else wrote, “What’s ‘chhapri’ for her, exactly? Look who is speaking now!”

The brouhaha reignited some controversies surrounding celebrities being insensitive towards making comments regarding religious or cultural customs. Though a few argued in favor of Farah’s remark as just an off-the-cuff remark, others were labeling it grossly inappropriate and requested an apology.

This is not the first time Farah Khan has been making headlines about her comments. The other day, she made a light-hearted mention of singer Udit Narayan’s kissing scandal in a YouTube video with her best pal, tennis player Sania Mirza, Sania’s son Izhaan Mirza Malik, and Sania’s sister Anam Mirza.

In the light-hearted conversation, Farah requested a cheek kiss from Izhaan before handing him a ball. When the little boy hesitated, she playfully said, “Come on, do a Udit ji on me!”, leaving Sania Mirza in stitches. Although the comment was made in jest, it also attracted attention on social media, joining Farah’s recent string of controversial remarks.
