Every year on June 21, World Music Day, sometimes called International Music Day, is celebrated.

International Music Day or World Music Day is observed on June 21 and is dedicated to singers and musicians. This particular day offers a platform for the youth, amateurs, and young talents to showcase their talents in live performances . ‘Fête de la Musique’ or ‘music festival’ or World Music Day was first celebrated in France. Special music concerts are held on this day all over the world to spread the word of music and to appreciate musicians.
World Music Day History –
World Music Day was established by Maurice Fleuret, the then Director of Music and Dance in Ministry of Culture in France and Jack Lang, the then French Minister of Culture in the year 1982. World Music Day was celebrated on the day of sunshine or solstice. Talking about this holiday, Maurice Fleuret and Jack Lang designed a concept with the architect-scenographer Christian Dupavillon to gather musicians on the streets of Paris.

In France, a music concert was performed on the 21st of June, 1982 to entertain both amateur and professional musicians. And then it happened in 1985, many countries adopted this yearly concert throughout the European Year of Music. In July of the same year 1997, the European Festival of Music held in Budapest witnessed a signing of this partnership. They have begun observing World Music Day across the world to honor musicians and singers and encourage them.

For musicians everywhere, World Music Day holds great importance. On this day, all musicians—professional and amateur—are welcome to display their abilities. Public spaces like streets, porches, parks, etc. are venues where musicians can play. For the body, mind, and spirit, music therapy is a wonderful tool.
