Early life and career
At age of sixteen Depp had left the high school after dropping out and going into music business. His band the Kids moved from Florida where he had lived most part of his childhood to Los Angeles. In 1983 Depp married Lori Anne Allison a makeup artist who Depp supported while hes played bass in different bands. To help him get started in movies, Allison got her friend the actor Nicolas Cage, to ask director Wes Craven to give Depp a chance; his first film role was that of the teenager who is eaten by his own bed in ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’ (1984). He split up with Allison the following year.
Career-
Depp’s professional career breakthrough kicked off in 1987 when a television police series, 21 Jump Street was produced with Depp donning the police uniform as Officer Tom Hanson – a young police officer who was frequently seen going undercover in schools and colleges with an intention of arresting juvenile delinquents. The show became successful though Depp felt the worse by being marketed as a heart Throb of the teenage girls.
In 1990 he quit the show and starred in John Waters’s Cry-Baby and Tim Burton’s, Edward Scissorhands two films by directors, or perhaps auteurist filmmakers that helped to map out the actor further. This marked the beginning of their synergistic collaboration which afforded Depp roles in other Burton’s movies such as the black and white bio picture Ed Wood (1994), the gothic romance Sleepy Hollow (1999) as well as Tim burton’s take on Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005), in which the leading role of the mysterious candy-maker Willy WONKA was diligently embodied by Depp. Moreover, Depp did voice behind the ill-fated groom in Burton’s animated gothic fiction Corpse Bride released in the year 2005.
Later Movies
In 2014, Depp played an artificial intelligence researcher in the thriller Transcendence, a detective in the horror picture Tusk, and a wolf in the film adaptation of Stephen Sondheim’s musical fairy tale Into the Woods. In 2015, Depp demonstrated a penchant for the absurd as the titular character in the hilarious espionage caper Mortdecai, before exuding danger as criminal Whitey Bulger in Black Mass. He reprised his gleefully crazy performance as the Mad Hatter in Alice Through the Looking Glass (2016) and then joined an all-star cast in Murder on the Orient Express (2017), based on Agatha Christie’s 1933 novel.
