Social media giants like Twitter and Facebook have been cracking down on posts that contain abusive/vulgar tweets or behaviour that can hurt people’s sentiments.
Twitter has become the ‘one’ that can be taken away really quickly. Sometimes forever. The Social media giant is not just a platform but a privilege that many celebrities tend to forget. Expressing thoughts on various matters, celebrities who use the social media platform to put forth their opinions are often subjected to trolling from netizens while some users second their thoughts.
In the last couple of years, there have been many instances where Twitter had to suspend some celebrities’ accounts because of their controversial tweets.
WHAT TWITTER SAYS IN ITS GUIDELINES
Twitter in its guidelines has made it clear that it can temporarily or permanently suspend any user who will make any kind of “abusive tweets, posts or behaviour”. It also said that it will “not allow accounts whose primary purpose is to harm others” on the basis of race, ethnicity, religious preference, sexual orientation, or disability.
“Twitter believes in freedom of expression and in speaking truth to power”, the microblogging site said.
It was also reported that some have complained about the social media giant that does not have a consistent policy when it comes to banning users. But that may soon change. Not that long ago, Twitter announced it was going to start taking action against hate speech by allowing users to report tweets that violate the social media service’s hateful conduct policy.
There have been multiple instances where the social media giant Twitter has suspended accounts of celebrities. While some of these Bollywood celebrities are more famous than others, it’s safe to say that, they’re all infamous on Twitter.
While it’s a short list of famous people who have been officially banned, the list of those who have had their accounts suspended is a bit longer.

So, let’s go through a list of celebs whose Twitter accounts were suspended for violating Twitter regulations:
KANGANA RANAUT
Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut is one of the celebrities in the list whose Twitter account was suspended that too permanently from the micro-blogging site after failing to follow Twitter’s regulations, after she shared a couple of controversial political tweets on the platform during West Bengal elections. A Twitter spokesperson in an official statement said, “The referenced account has been permanently suspended for repeatedly violating Twitter Rules specifically our Hateful Conduct policy and Abusive Behaviour policy.”
Not only this, she has been posting many controversial tweets even against other Bollywood actors and actresses.
Many celebrities from Bollywood like Swara Bhasker, Richa Chadha, and others were more than happy after Kangana’s Twitter account got suspended and even gave positive feedback.
RANGOLI CHANDEL
Kangana Ranaut’s sister Rangoli Chandel had her Twitter account suspended for the same reason at the beginning of the year 2020. Rangoli’s tweet violated Twitter’s policies and was hurting people’s personal values and religious sentiments, as per the controversial tweet, she wrote about the attack on police and health care workers and targeted the media.
PAYAL ROHATGI
Another Bollywood actress Payal Rohatgi who has always been active on social media and has often been criticised for her controversial posts had her Twitter account suspended twice in a month last year for violating the rules of the microblogging site. Later, she posted a video on her Instagram mentioning that there was no reason given to her and she did not receive an email regarding the reason behind her Twitter account’s suspension. She also blamed Salman Khan and his team for allegedly being involved in getting her Twitter account banned.

ABHIJEET BHATTACHARYA
Bollywood playback singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya’s verified account was suspended in 2017 after making derogatory tweets against women and insulting a lot of female Twitter users. However, the Singer returned to the micro-blogging site with a new handle. He says anti-nationals can’t stop his voice. Twitter suspended Abhijeet’s account over sexist and offensive remarks targeted at some women users, particularly JNU student-activist Shehla Rashid. Later, he posted a video on his new account saying, “People are trying to suppress my voice. I am against those people who are trying to speak against the country and our Indian Army”.
Even Donald Trump’s Twitter account was banned from multiple social media platforms in 2020 and 2021, accused of inciting violence and sharing false information about the presidential elections.
Azaelia Banks, Rose McGowan, 50 Cent, Courtney Love, Pew Die Pie, Adele, Katie Hopkins, Kamaal Rashid Khan are among the others whose Twitter accounts were also suspended for violating the regulations of the platform.
