This film dares to show the realities of police brutality, custodial torture, caste oppression, and the deplorable socio-political conditions that the low caste live through. It doesn’t shy away from addressing castes by their name and calling out the political-police nexus in maintaining this diabolical status quo. As for a court drama, it is well researched and executed.

2. Sardar Udham

A film by Shoojit Sircar is a biopic that tells us the relatively unknown tale of (Shaheed -i -Azam) the martyr, Sardar Udam Singh. He wants to seek revenge for the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre caused on 13th April 1919 by Michael O’ Dwyer (Lieutenant Governor of Punjab) who was the main perpetrator of the Massacre. 4. Uddan

If you are a fan of south Indian cinema then here is a recommendation for you that is Uddan. This film is a story of a family man who dreamt to make poor afford flight tickets. The protagonist failed many times but was not ready to give up on his dreams.

You may find this a bit unreal, but south ki movie h yaar, hero Kuch Bhi Kar Sakta h.

5. Jerry Maguire

Jerry Maguire is a funny, heartfelt, and perfect comfort movie. After sports agent Jerry McGuire writes an emotional memo for all the company to read, he promptly gets fired. Desperate to hang on to his career and his athletes, he decides to start his management firm. He grows closer to the only person who joined him in his new venture, single-mother Dorothy Boyd. As they begin to fall in love, they struggle to keep the business working. It’s a hilarious film, and both Tom Cruise and Renée Zellweger do a fabulous job at bringing the story to life.

And also, an added bonus, it has Tom Cruise in it.

 6. Sherni

A ferociously understated movie, where Amit Masurkar chooses a complex topic and delivers it with a natural ease. While Vidya Balan confirms this role was written only and only for her. The movie follows the hunt of a tigress in a local jungle area, loosely based on the real-life story of Avni aka T6.

The movie takes you right into the jungle, and gives a fresh take with a matter-of-fact approach – treating the wilderness as more of a workplace for the officials and less of a horror or romantic movie setting. It shows restraint in every aspect – in the humour, in the message of justice for animals and in the feminist undertones. The story line develops organically, and the characters are portrayed so differently and realistically it feels almost like a documentary.

7. The Great Indian Kitchen

If you are a fan of Regional Cinema, then this is a great watch.  The subject is highly relatable across middle class families living in rural regions, and the makers have ensured the rustic feel is maintained while keeping the emotions alive through the actors who deliver super performances too. Most of the female side characters in the film are beautifully used to focus on the first necessary thing – to be aware of the oppression. You had witnessed such characters even in your house too. So just before ending, the film temporarily introduces us to a new bride in the great Indian kitchen, which stays exactly the same as before.

8. Godzilla vs Kong

Godzilla vs Kong is the definition of popcorn entertainment. Turning off your brain for a fun night full of excitement is exactly the way this movie is meant to be viewed. Top notch action with ground breaking visuals and superb sound effects, this film is actually meant to be experienced in theatre but you can still enjoy it on Amazon Prime.  Get some popcorn and go watch this film.

 9. Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar

An incredibly layered film that shows us a mirror to the society we live in. Also career best performances by Arjun and Parineeti. Sandeep Walia (Parineeti Chopra), a banker is in deep trouble and is on the run to save her life. Helping her is a suspended Haryana constable (Arjun Kapoor). Both flawed individuals from two different Indias, mistrusting each other. How they hoodwink the administration forms the gist of the film.

10. The Father

The Father is one of the best films that has come out in 2021 where Anthony Hopkins delivers a heartfelt performance that tugs at your heartstrings. Olivia Colman also does a phenomenal job and makes the film so much more real.

This film tackles an interesting take on dementia. It is a psychological thriller while also being an emotional rollercoaster. The great performances, beautiful dialogue and stunning camerawork makes for a touching film about a man losing his grip on reality.

These are our recommendations of the 10 Best Bollywood Films on Amazon Prime that you can watch on this weekend. What are your plans for the weekend?
