Anil Kapoor reflects on Marlon Brando, James Dean’s influence; teases intense role in upcoming film Subedaar

Anil Kapoor, a veteran actor, recently took a journey down memory lane to mark the 44th anniversary of his cult film Kahan Kahan Se Guzar Gaya. The Mr. India actor uploaded a series of retro photos from the film on Instagram, opening up about his early days as an actor. Kapoor claimed that Hollywood icons Marlon Brando and James Dean were his greatest influences, moulding his skill and passion for film.

Kapoor wrote, “I drew inspiration from Marlon Brando in A Streetcar Named Desire and James Dean in Rebel Without a Cause. Their presence was always in the back of my mind—guiding, influencing, inspiring. They have always been a source of admiration for me.” He also praised the team behind Kahan Kahan Se Guzar Gaya, including director M.S. Sathyu, cinematographer Ishan Arya, and photographer Nemai Ghosh, calling it an honor to be part of the film.

Kahan Kahan Se Guzar Gaya was released in 1980 and starring Pankaj Kapur, Sharon Prabhakar, Neesha Singh, and Masood Akhtar. The film is hailed as a cult masterpiece and an important milestone in Kapoor’s career.

On the work front, Kapoor is getting ready for his next project, Subedaar. The actor released a trailer for the film in December, giving fans a glimpse of his harsh role. In the trailer, Kapoor plays Subedaar Arjun Maurya, a former army officer who is seen sitting in a dark room with a handgun, bracing for a fight with a group of people threatening to burst in. His character, often known as Chacha, exudes strength and determination.

Subedaar also features Radhika Madan as Shyama, Kapoor’s on-screen daughter. Suresh Triveni, who has previously worked on Tumhari Sulu and Jalsa, directs the film. It is produced by Opening Image Films and Anil Kapoor Film and Communication Network (AKFCN), with Vikram Malhotra, Anil Kapoor, and Suresh Triveni as producers.

Kapoor’s Instagram post not only celebrated his journey, but also emphasised the long-lasting impact of cinematic icons on his profession. Fans are excited for Subedaar, which promises to feature Kapoor in a forceful and action-packed character.

With his dedication to his craft and his ability to connect with audiences, Anil Kapoor remains one of Bollywood’s most beloved and respected actors.
