Telugu superstar Allu Arjun was arrested on Thursday in connection with a stampede outside Hyderabad’s Sandhya Theatre on December 3. The tragic incident occurred during a special screening of his latest film, Pushpa 2: The Rule, after the actor made an unannounced appearance at the venue.
The stampede claimed the life of a 35-year-old woman named Revathi and left her nine-year-old son critically injured. According to police, chaos broke out as hundreds of fans rushed to catch a glimpse of Arjun, who arrived at the theatre around 9:30 PM and spent about 15-20 minutes outside.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner CV Anand stated that neither the theatre management nor Arjun’s team had informed authorities about his visit. Furthermore, the theatre failed to provide a separate entry or exit for the actor, which worsened crowd control issues.
Arjun, 41, was taken from his Jubilee Hills residence to the Chikkadpally Police Station. His father, renowned filmmaker Allu Arvind, and other family members were present during the arrest. Charges filed against the actor include culpable homicide not amounting to murder and voluntarily causing hurt.
The police are investigating whether Arjun had obtained permission for his appearance and interactions with fans outside the theatre. A case has also been registered against members of his security team and the Sandhya Theatre management.
On December 11, Arjun approached the Telangana High Court, seeking to quash the charges against him.
Following the tragic event, Arjun expressed his grief on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), saying he was “deeply heartbroken” and offered condolences to Revathi’s family. He announced financial assistance of ₹25 lakh for the family and pledged to cover the boy’s medical expenses.
Arjun’s unexpected visit, along with Pushpa 2’s music director Devi Sri Prasad, drew massive crowds. The situation escalated when security personnel attempted to manage the surging crowd, leading to suffocation and injuries. Despite efforts by police to rescue victims, Revathi succumbed, while her son remains hospitalized.
This incident has raised questions about safety measures at public events and the responsibilities of celebrities and organizers.
