Award-winning actor Aishwarya Rajesh is shedding light on a problem in the Tamil film industry – the lack of toilet facilities for women during outdoor shoots. “As the lead actress, I might get a vanity van with all the facilities, but what about the other women who work in the film? They suffer because there are no facilities, and it’s tough for them on long shoots,” she told Hindustan Times. The actor says that if these basic needs aren’t met, then an inclusive atmosphere cannot be expected in any industry.

Her comments come in the light of the Hema Committee report and has opened up discussions on the issue of sexual harassment in Malayalam cinema. The issue has reverberated in other film industries as well. In Tamil Nadu, actor Radhika Sarathkumar appealed to film industry professionals to have open dialogues with their colleagues, including men, to discuss these issues and evolve solutions. The Nadigar Sangam also announced a sexual harassment committee headed by actor Rohini, promising action against offenders.

While Aishwarya herself has not faced harassment, she feels the need to stand in support of those who have. “Women need to feel secure,” she says. “If someone is truly a culprit, let them be put through due process and let them face the outcome of their actions.” She also urges female actors to be strong and unafraid to voice their concerns when it comes to inappropriate behavior. As she prepares for her upcoming projects, including “Valaiyam” and “Suzhal Season 2,” her advocacy for women in the industry remains a priority.
