A. R. Rahman, the legendary Indian music composer, was born on January 6, 1967, in Madras, Tamil Nadu. His birth name was Dileep Kumar, and he was raised by his mother, Kareema, after his father’s death when he was just nine years old. Rahman’s musical journey began at a young age, and he started playing the keyboard at the age of four. He later mastered the piano, synthesizer, harmonium, and guitar, and was particularly interested in the synthesizer because it was the “ideal combination of music and technology”.
Rahman’s music career spans over three decades, and he has composed music for numerous Indian films, including Tamil, Hindi, and Malayalam movies. He has won numerous awards for his work, including six National Film Awards, two Academy Awards, two Grammy Awards, and a BAFTA Award.
