The recent work of the Delimitation Commission has resulted in modifications to the constituency of Udhampur in Jammu and Kashmir. Udhampur East and Udhampur West now make up the two halves of the erstwhile Udhampur Assembly seat. On October 1, voters in both constituencies cast their ballots, and today, October 8, 2024, the results are being tallied.

The results of the 2024 Udhampur Assembly election will be announced today. Important candidates from the BJP, Samajwadi Party, and independents ran in the constituency, which was divided into Udhampur East and West following delimitation. Notably, Balwant Singh Mankotia is currently the winner, with Pawan Kumar Gupta coming in second.

Important candidates in the Udhampur West constituency include Pawan Kumar Gupta (Bharatiya Janata Party), Sahil Manhas (Samajwadi Party), and Jasvir Singh (Independent). A number of independent contenders are competing with them. Prominent contenders in Udhampur East, meantime, include independents and Sunil Verma of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference, Baqeel Singh of the Jammu & Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party, and Ranbir Singh Pathania of the BJP.

By a margin of 14,650 votes, Pawan Kumar Gupta previously won the Udhampur seat in 2014. He received 36,226 votes and 42.57 percent of the total vote. By contrast, Gupta came in second place behind Balwant Singh Mankotia, who won the seat by a margin of 2,765 votes, in the 2024 elections with 22,494 votes (31.61 percent). In Jammu and Kashmir, this election is the first Assembly polls held since Article 370 was repealed and constituency boundaries were established in 2022.
