Himachal Pradesh High Court Issues Notice to Kangana Ranaut Over Petition Challenging Her Mandi Lok Sabha Election Victory Due to Alleged Nomination Paper Issues
On Wednesday, the Himachal Pradesh High Court issued a notice to actress Kangana Ranaut concerning a petition against her election as a Member of Parliament from the Mandi Lok Sabha seat. Justice Jyotsna Rewal Dua conducting the case ordered Ranaut to filed his reply on the petition by August 21.
The petition was moved by Laik Ram Negi, a previous forest department employee, who stated that his nomination papers were rejected by the RO for the Mandi constituency improperly. As per the analysation by Negi, the RO which is the Deputy Commissioner of Mandi went wrong in rejecting his nomination documents submitted on 14-05-2024.
On the plea for the election, Negi mentioned that all the no-dues certificates from the department were submitted earlier and additional no-dues certificates from the electricity, water, telephone departments were also attached. Nevertheless, the Returning Officer declined his nomination papers without accepting the same. Negi argued that while he was told that he had up to May 15 to present the no dues certificate, his documents were returned to him on the bases that they were not submitted on the 14th and such was fatal for the RO.
In the recent election, Kangana Ranaut was the most prominent winner for the BJP as the winning margin for the Mandi Lok Sabha seat was a rather comfortable 74,755 votes ahead of the Congress candidate Vikramaditya Singh. Out of the total number of votes polled, Ranaut secured 5,37,002 while Singh got 4,62,267 votes.

Given the fact that the High Court has issued a notice to Ranaut over the issue, his election could potentially shift the political dynamics of the electoral constituency of Mandi. With the unfolding of the legal processes all the focus will be on what the court will determine, a determination that may be crucial and be of precedent tenet to future matters of election.
