Babita Phogat accuses Bhupinder Hooda of causing family rift after cousin Vinesh joined Congress

Babita Phogat, the renowned wrestler and BJP leader, has publicly accused senior Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda of instigating a rift within her family. Her comments come in the wake of her cousin, Vinesh Phogat’s recent switch to Congress, shortly after announcing her retirement from wrestling. This move has sparked tension between Babita and her cousin.

Speaking to reporters, Babita Phogat alleged that Hooda successfully created a divide in the Phogat family and asserted that the people of Haryana would teach him a lesson for allegedly causing this discord. Babita criticized Congress’s historical approach of divide and rule, suggesting that the party’s actions were aimed at disrupting family unity for political gain.

Babita expressed disappointment over Vinesh’s decision to join Congress without taking into account the advice of their uncle and mentor, Mahavir Phogat. She stressed that Mahavir, who has been a guiding figure in their wrestling careers, was trying to show Vinesh the right path and that she should have followed his guidance.

Further criticizing her cousin’s decision, Babita suggested that Vinesh missed an opportunity by not focusing on her wrestling career. She argued that if Vinesh had concentrated on preparing for the 2028 Olympics, she might have been in a position to secure a gold medal.

Vinesh Phogat’s political move, along with Bajrang Punia’s recent alignment with Congress, has led to significant shifts in the political landscape. Vinesh will contest in  Haryana assembly elections from the Julana constituency. In contrast, Babita Phogat, who joined BJP in 2019 and contested in the assembly elections that year, was not offered a ticket this time. Despite this, she voiced support for the BJP’s decision, emphasizing that the party’s interests and the country’s welfare are more important than individual aspirations.
