Addressing Safety Concerns: Akhilesh Yadav Weighs in on Maha Kumbh Management

Leaders from opposition parties criticized the Central government and the Yogi Adityanath-led administration in Uttar Pradesh shortly after the stampede at tha Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj, asserting that “negligence” and “VIP culture” were responsible for the incident and the resulting deaths.

Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the opposition, said that the government “should make better arrangements to meet the needs of common devotees” and that the “VIP culture” should be controlled for the occurrence.

“This unfortunate event stems from poor management and the administration’s particular emphasis on VIP transportation instead of regular worshippers,” he stated.

Akhilesh Yadav, the leader of the SP and a former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, proposed that the Army be given control of the Kumbh’s management and administration in order to rebuild faith among the sants and devotees. Yadav called for increased aerial observation, saying, “Those who are making lofty claims of world-class arrangements at the Maha Kumbh should take moral responsibility for the deaths and should resign from their positions.”

Mallikarajun Kharge, the Congress president, also linked the incident to “VIP movement,” “inadequate preparations,” and “focus on self-promotion instead of proper management and mis-management.”

Ajay Rai, the head of the UP Congress, claimed that the state government “destroyed” the arrangements because it was “busy taking care of VIPs.” “The government is to blame for this catastrophe. The VIP system is everywhere. Ordinary devotees are not accommodated,” Rai stated.

Allahabad Congress MP Ujjwal Raman Singh called for an investigation into the incident headed by a current Supreme Court judge.

At the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj, where hundreds of thousands of people congregated to swim in the Sangam, a pre-dawn stampede on Wednesday resulted in 30 fatalities and at least 60 injuries.

The Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government and the local administration would be under pressure.
