Supreme Court Shields Ranveer Allahbadia from Arrest Amid FIRs

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court provided temporary protection from arrest to podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia regarding several FIRs related to his inappropriate comments on the Youtube program ‘India’s Got Latent’. The court criticized Allahbadia’s remarks, stating, “There’s a foul thought in this individual’s mind that has been disseminated through this program. The language you selected will bring shame to parents and sisters.” The whole community of Allahbadia submitted his passport at the Thane police station, stating that he cannot exit India without the court’s prior approval.

What transpired during India’s Got Latent show? 

In an episode of India’s Got Latent, hosted by comedian Samay Raina, Allahbadia made an inappropriate joke that drew attention for being offensive. The comment swiftly sparked anger, resulting in FIRs being lodged in two states — Maharashtra and Assam. Although the program was aimed at a restricted audience, excerpts gained popularity, amplifying the negative response. As the criticism increased, Allahbadia offered a public apology, acknowledging that he had gone too far. In light of the controversy, Samay Raina deleted every video of the show to limit additional examination. 

Supreme Court provides temporary protection from arrest for Ranveer Allahbadia

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court provided temporary protection from arrest to podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia in connection with FIRs concerning his comments on the YouTube show India’s Got Latent. The court criticized Allahbadia for his statements, stating, “this individual harbors something unclean in his thoughts that has been conveyed through this program. The language you used will bring shame to parents and sisters.” “The whole community will experience embarrassment.” 

‘No one is authorized to say anything in the name of freedom of speech,’ states SC to Ranveer Allahbadia. 

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court began reviewing podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia’s appeal, seeking relief from several FIRs lodged against him due to his contentious comments on the YouTube program India’s Got Latent. 

The Court criticized Allahbadia, probing if his remarks could be seen as anything but lewd. “If this isn’t considered obscenity, then what is?” the Court inquired. The justices also condemned the phrasing employed, asserting that it would bring embarrassment to daughters, sisters, parents, and the broader community. The Court also inquired why the FIRs filed against him ought to be dismissed or combined.

Supreme Court to consider Ranveer Allahbadia’s appeal against FIRs today regarding the India’s Got Latent controversy

The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia’s appeal on Tuesday, requesting relief from several FIRs lodged against him due to his comments on the YouTube show India’s Got Latent, according to PTI. The matter will be reviewed by Justices Surya Kant and N Kotiswar Singh. 

Maharashtra police deny Samay Raina’s appeal for online participation

The Maharashtra cyber police have refused to allow comedian Samay Raina to give his statement through videoconferencing regarding the FIR filed against him, podcaster Ranveer

Allahbadia, influencer Apoorva Mukhija, and others related to Allahbadia’s contentious comments during the India’s Got Latent YouTube show that became viral online. 

A senior official from the Maharashtra cyber police verified the news on Monday.

The cyber police have issued a summons to Raina, requesting that he come for questioning on Tuesday. His legal team stated that he was overseas and planned to come back on Monday. Previously, Raina requested additional time to present himself to the cyber police, but that plea was also rejected. 

Ranveer Allahbadia was called again by the Maharashtra cyber police on February 24, after he did not reply to the initial summons and did not show up for questioning.
