A tragic explosion occurred at an ordnance factory in Bhandara district, Maharashtra, on Thursday morning, leaving eight people dead and seven others injured. The blast took place around 11 a.m. at the factory located near Nagpur, according to officials.
The incident caused the roof of the factory to collapse, trapping at least 12 people under the debris. Rescue teams managed to save two individuals, and an excavator is being used to clear the rubble in search of survivors.
In a statement released by the authorities, it was confirmed that rescue and medical teams are working tirelessly at the site to assist those affected by the blast.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed his condolences and shared updates about the rescue efforts. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he stated, “The District Collector and Superintendent of Police are at the scene, and all kinds of assistance are being provided. SDRF and Nagpur Municipal Corporation teams have been called for rescue operations and will arrive soon. The district administration is coordinating with the defense forces to ensure all necessary support.”
He added, “As per the initial information received, one worker has unfortunately lost his life in this incident. I pay my heartfelt tributes to him and share the grief of his family. I pray for the speedy recovery of those injured.”
The injured individuals have been rushed to nearby hospitals for medical treatment. Teams have been deployed to ensure immediate medical assistance for all those affected.
The cause of the explosion has yet to be identified, and an investigation is ongoing. The ordnance plant, which manufactures ammunition and explosives for defence purposes, is a high-security institution, therefore the event is very troubling.
Local officials, rescue teams, and medical personnel are on the scene, clearing rubble and assisting survivors. As the rescue mission progresses, more information will become available.
