Baba Siddique's Son Zeeshan Siddique, Expelled By Congress, Joins Team Ajit Pawar

Zeeshan Siddique, son of late Maharashtra politician Baba Siddique, is finally joining the Ajit Pawar-led faction of the Nationalist Congress Party. The move comes just months after being expelled by Congress in August on charges that he voted against the party in the Maharashtra legislative council elections. However, he has always denied that charge.

Zeeshan said, “This is an emotional day for me and my family. I thank Ajit Pawar, Praful Patel, and Sunil Tatkare for their trust in me in this hour of crisis. I get the nomination for Bandra East, and with the love and affection from the public, I expect to emerge victorious again.”

Zeeshan Siddique is a 32-year-old leadership aspirant. He carries a heavy political legacy-a father, Baba Siddique, a veteran politician who has served multiple terms as a Congress MLA. And now, completing his father’s political journey, Zeeshan Siddique had won the Vandre East seat, also known as Bandra East, in the last elections by defeating Shiv Sena’s Vishwanath Mahadeshwar, who had once been the Mayor of Mumbai. Hence, his recent political move to the NCP is viewed as a shrewd move, especially since members of his family have been in the Bandra region.

The seat of Bandra East is now reserved for Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray faction) due to a seat-sharing understanding within the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition. Zeeshan would ideally be in an optimistic mood as the seat has been shared with Shiv Sena. More importantly, he is supported by his family for the region. Varun Sardesai, nephew of Uddhav Thackeray, has been fielded as the Shiv Sena candidate.

In a brutal attack, Zeeshan’s father, Baba Siddique, was shot dead outside his son’s office in Bandra on October 12, in a suspected case of either business rivalry or contract killing. Police have arrested 14 people related to the case, and investigations are still under way. Baba Siddique was known as a workhorse in Maharashtra politics. And in MLA terms, he represented Congress from 1999 till 2009 and, as Vandre West till 2014. Early this year, he deserted Congress to join the Ajit Pawar group of NCP.

Zeeshan Siddique’s politics journey now enters its next phase as the man unites his destiny with that of the NCP for an opportunity to ensure that, hopefully, he continues his father’s legacy by winning this seat once again in these elections.
