The crash beam barrier on Yamuna Expressway couldn’t save the day
The Yamuna Expressway has witnessed many severe accidents since its construction. Reports of vehicles falling from the expressway are not new for locals. Concerning this, the Yamuna Authority installed crash beam barriers to avoid driving off the expressway. While installing the crash beam barrier, it was claimed that such mishaps could be significantly controlled. However, a recent accident exposed all such claims.
Low visibility is the prime cause of accidents happening at the Yamuna Express.
Yamuna Expressway underwent a road safety audit in 2019 by IIT Delhi. According to the audit study, 235 accidents occurred due to dense fog between 2012 and 2018. 64% of them happened between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m.
SP Chief Akhilesh Yadav visited the site and sought details about the mishap.
