As tensions escalated, angry residents vandalised and set a police camp on fire. While the post-mortem report is still pending, the BJP has claimed that the girl was raped and murdered, accusing the state government, led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, of mishandling the situation. This incident comes on the heels of the rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata in August, adding further pressure on the West Bengal administration.

The police have arrested a 19-year-old man, Mostakin Sardar, in connection with the crime. Despite this, protesters continue to demonstrate, demanding justice for the victim. Union Minister and BJP State President Sukanta Majumdar has called for Chief Minister Banerjee’s resignation, stating that her government has lost control over law and order in the state.
With Durga Puja celebrations approaching, Majumdar criticized the rising incidents of crime, saying, “This shows that Mamata Banerjee has no control over the administration.” However, police officials have urged patience, awaiting the post-mortem results to determine whether rape occurred. A large police force has been deployed to prevent further unrest
