WB CM Mamata Banerjee dedicates Trinamool Foundation Day to Kolkata rape-murder case victim, says “Deeply Sorry”
On Wednesday, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed her condolences and support for the family of a postgraduate trainee doctor who was killed on August 9 at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital after being sexually assaulted. The horrific incident has stunned the country and led to protests and wide outrage. In an X (formerly Twitter) message, Banerjee paid tribute to the young doctor on the day the Trinamool Congress’s student wing, the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad, was founded. She expressed her sympathies to the victim’s family as well as to other women who have been harmed by similar “inhuman incidents.”
Additionally, the Chief Minister emphasized the important role that youth and students play in society. She urged them to keep up their commitment to social concerns, respect cultural norms, and motivate people around them by creating a better world. The student body has a responsibility to awaken society and culture and to manifest the hope for a better future. I want to encourage all students today to keep working hard, maintain their health, and remain dedicated to a bright future,” Banerjee added.
“I am dedicating this day, Trinamool Chhatra Parishad’s founding day, to our sister, whose untimely death at RG Kar Hospital we are deeply grieving.” We offer our sincere sympathies and demand that this horrifying incident be brought to justice immediately. All ladies, irrespective of age, who have suffered from such barbaric crimes have our deepest sympathies. I am deeply sorry” West Bengal Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee wrote in Bengali.
