PM Modi’s Historic Kyiv Visit: Invites Ukraine’s President Zelensky to India, Strengthening Strategic Partnership Amid Global Geopolitical Shifts
A major diplomatic push came yesterday when Prime Minister Narendra Modi invited Zelenskyy to India for talks during the bilateral talks in Kyiv. This is one of the important steps in further enhancement of the strategic cooperation between the two countries. Indeed, President Zelenskyy reacted enthusiastically to the idea, saying how much he would like to visit India, describing it as a great country with a ancient history.

This was during the Nri PM Modi’s record nine-hour long visit to Kyiv, which is the first by any Indian Prime Minister in over three decades of Ukraine’s independence. It also brings out the significance of relation between India and Ukraine in relation to contemporary international political structure.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar confirmed this during a media briefing and took time to stress on why on such an occasion it is natural to extend an invitation to the next, in this case prime minister. Said Jaishankar, Zelensky should also plan the India visit at a suitable time to continue boosting the relations between the two countries.

President Zelenskyy in his response emphasized the need for further diplomatic talks and deep cooperation and stated his wish to have India on Ukraine’s side in the ongoing challenges. He said that he loved India and wanted to visit as soon as it would be possible owing to the situation in Ukraine.

They also discussed the India-Russia energy relation where Jaishankar recalled India’s position on the global energy market, how sanctions complicate business. While Russia has become the largest supplier of crude oil to India, this part of the conversation was an example of how India tried to tread a middle ground in its diplomacy amid the Ukraine war.
