Elderly Woman Burnt Alive by Sons Over Family Dispute in Tripura
A 62-year-old woman in Tripura was tied to a tree and burnt alive by her sons over a family dispute. Both accused have been arrested; motive likely property-related.

On September 28, two sons mercilessly tied a 62-year-old woman of West Tripura to a tree and burnt her. The Khamarbari incident under the jurisdiction of Champaknagar police station sent a chill down the entire region as it is abhorrent to take a human’s life like a little dispute over a family property.

According to Kamal Krishna Koloi, Sub-divisional police officer of Jirania, police personnel rushed to the spot immediately after the authorities got a tip-off about the incident. “The police have recovered the body of a burnt woman tied with a tree in front of an abandoned house. The department has taken the body and sent it for a post-mortem examination,” Kamal Krishna Koloi added.

She is said to have been completely dependent on her two sons after her husband died a year and a half ago. She is staying with one son while the other son is staying in Agartala, the state capital. Both the sons have been arrested and will be produced before the court, as the police will seek remand for further interrogation.
It reminds one of another tragic episode that had occurred merely a few months ago in Chandigarh. There, a 26-year-old woman was set on fire by her lover after a spat over a relationship. These incidents describe the disturbing trend of violent crimes resulting from family and relationship conflicts.
