Tragic Suicide in Visakhapatnam: Couple Jumps from Third Floor Amid Family Opposition, Police Investigate

A heart-wrenching incident was witnessed in the Gajuwaka area of Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The young couple ended their lives by jumping from the third floor of an apartment building. The shocking incident took place early Tuesday morning in Akkireddy Palem.

The victims were identified as Pilli Durga Rao (32) and Sai Sushmita (27), an employee at a Hyderabad-based pharmaceutical company. According to police sources, a distress call was received around 5:50 a.m. regarding the incident, which took place in Sheela Nagar’s Venkateshwara Colony. Authorities promptly reached the scene and shifted the bodies to a local hospital for autopsy.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the couple had been staying together in the same building for the last three months. Neighbors reported hearing an argument between the two shortly before the tragic incident. However, the exact circumstances and reasons leading to their extreme decision remain under investigation.

Both belonged to the Amalapuram town in the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema district. Durga Rao was running a food stall in Visakhapatnam but had just given up his shop on lease. Neighbors reported that Durga Rao was an unmarried person who lived alone earlier and Sushmita had joined him recently. But nobody knew much about the background of Sushmita in the entire building where she stayed.

The apartment’s watchman testified that the couple was living together. The main reason behind this tragic event is thought to be opposition from their families to their relationship. Durga Rao and Sushmita are said to have been lovers and were going to marry, but their union had been opposed by their families.

The police lodged a case and initiated an inquiry to establish the sequence of incidents that led to the incident. The officers found that Durga Rao’s flat door was open, and evidence is being collected from all corners of the apartment. Footage from the various CCTV cameras in the location is also being analyzed.

As part of their ongoing investigation, police say they have informed the family of the deceased and recorded statements from neighbors and other eyewitnesses. They’re keen to find out what could have led to such a tragic occurrence.

This tragic incident serves as a grim reminder of how emotional pressure from family and society can take its toll on individuals. Police continue their efforts to provide closure to the grieving families and piece together the final moments of the couple’s lives.
