Bengaluru Man Dies by Suicide After Wife Declines to Withdraw Divorce Petition: A Heartbreaking Tale of Marital Conflict and Emotional Turmoil

A 39-year-old man identified as Manjunath, took his own life in Bengaluru after his wife refused to withdraw a divorce petition. The incident occurred on Thursday in the Nagarbhavi locality. The entire community was shocked, and it highlighted the emotional toll of marital discord.

Manjunath, a taxi operator from the town of Kunigal, was staying away from his wife for the last two years due to marital incompatibility. The couple got married in 2013 and had a 9-year-old son. Since the couple separated, the wife had filed a case for divorce and the trial is still going on. However, sources claim Manjunath too wanted to reconcile and he too went to his wife’s house to convince her to withdraw the case.

This turned out to be of no avail because his wife flatly declined to consider the plea that he presented to her, according to reports. Manjunath found he could not resist her refusal; so, finally, he committed suicide by immolating himself in the passage outside her home by drenching himself in petrol.

This sad event left Manjunath’s family reeling in the devastating effects. The parents of the victim have made harsh criticism against his wife, saying her acts and judgments had driven Manjunath to such an extreme step. Police at Jnanabharathi have filed a case and started further investigation into this incident.

This case bears a resemblance to recent suicide by Bengaluru techie Atul Subhash. His death gave rise to numerous debates everywhere. Atul had alleged torture by his wife and claimed she demanded Rs. 3 crore as alimony during their divorce. These expose deep psychological struggles one may go through in marital conflicts. There is an immediate need for such support systems to address these crises.

This tragedy of Manjunath reminds the importance of awareness regarding mental health and the requirement of counseling for couples in a process of separation or divorce. While the courts of law ensure resolution of issues, emotional crises often remain without proper treatment that causes such tragic accidents.

Experts point out that intervention programs and community support play significant roles in helping individuals deal with marital breakdowns. Open dialogue and professional counseling are a lifeline, providing alternative views and coping mechanisms for such turbulent times.
