SC To Hear Pleas Seeking CBI Probe Into Alleged Use Of Animal Fat In Tirupati Laddu Today!

Today the Supreme Court will consider a plea about the Tupati Laddu controversy filed by BJP leader Subramanian Swamy, former president of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam Trust, and Rajya Sabha MP YV Subba Reddy. Subramanian Swamy has petitioned the Supreme Court for an inquiry into the claims made by Chandrababu Naidu, the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh.

A nine-person special investigation team (SIT) was formed by the Andhra Pradesh government to look into the claims of adulterating sacred sweets, Tirupati laddus, with animal fats.

The dispute started when Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu claimed that during the previous government headed by YSR Congress chief Jagan Mohan Reddy, pig fat had been used in the laddus that were served as “prasadam” at the Sri Venkateswara Temple.

YV Subba Reddy, a Rajya Sabha MP from the YSR Congress Party and the former head of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), and BJP politician Subramanian Swamy both filed petitions asking for a court-supervised probe into the situation.

The case will be heard by a bench consisting of Justices B. R. Gavai and K. V. Viswanathan. In one of the petitions, advocate Satyam Singh demanded that the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam Trust be investigated for “criminal conspiracy and mismanagement” by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) or a judicial committee chaired by a retired Supreme Court judge.
