Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir neutralized three terrorists in a major operation in Akhnoor, preventing an infiltration attempt near the LoC.
Security Forces Successfully Neutralize Three Terrorists in Intense Akhnoor Operation Near the Line of Control
The security forces in Jammu and Kashmir made a big breakthrough on Tuesday by neutralizing the third terrorist in an ongoing operation in the Akhnoor sector. This is after killing two other terrorists earlier in the day, bringing the total number of militants killed to three since the encounter began on Monday morning. The operation was carried out near the Line of Control, at the Jogwan village. It was yet another encounter in which security forces came face to face with militant intruders.

The face-off began when on Monday morning, militants targeted an army ambulance in a convoy. Terrorists started firing at the convoy at 6:30 a.m. and targeted the ambulance particularly. As the army retaliated, militants fled the spot and took shelter in the Akhnoor forest area, and security forces launched a full-scale operation.
Forces were mobilized quickly, and special units such as the NSG commandos were dispatched to the area. One terrorist had been neutralized by Monday evening, but two more terrorists remained at large on Tuesday, hiding reportedly in a basement close to the Assan temple in Jogwan village.

On Tuesday morning, operation was resumed with increased vigour. Two thunderous explosions were heard early in the morning, after which heavy gunfire erupted as the assault began. It was during this phase that a four-year old army dog named Phantom lost his life when he was hit by a bullet, fearlessly assisting the forces in the operation.
In another attempt to close the ring around the zone and cut off any chance of escape, the Army also used four BMP-II infantry combat vehicles to intensify surveillance over the zone and keep the attackers confined. The Tuesday evening attack also saw helicopters being used to make aerial recce and locate the location of the terrorists hiding behind the thick jungles. Two more terrorists were shot down by late morning on Tuesday and the whole operation was successful.
It is suspected that this infiltration was probably carried out by militants who entered the LoC from the Pakistani side on the night before the attack. The apparent purpose was to create turmoil in the region by hitting military convoys, and the swift response by the Indian Army and security forces saved the situation from further degradation and loss of life.
The Akhnoor operation comes in the wake of a spate of terror incidents that have rocked Jammu and Kashmir over the last fortnight. Only last week, two soldiers and two civilians were killed after terrorists had attacked an army vehicle in Baramulla district. A local doctor and six laborers who had been engaged in a tunnel construction project were shot dead by militants in Gagangir area of Ganderbal. Such attacks have brought into sharp focus the persistent terrorism threat in the region even after all efforts made toward peace and stability.
Condoles terror attacks, says the government is committed to tracking the perpetrators. “Every drop of innocent blood spilled in the valley will be avenged,” he declared-strongly sending across the message to those responsible for terror activities.
The Akhnoor operation is yet another success by the security forces in fighting terrorism in the region; however, incidents like this continue to persist, stating the challenges they still have to face. While infiltration continues and terrorists continue to seek to destabilize the place, Indian forces do not budge. Completion of a successful Akhnoor encounter depicts how ready Indian forces are to respond speedily and effectively to every threat.
