Tragic Loss: Three more Amarnath Yatra pilgrims succumb to low oxygen levels at high altitudes, bringing the death toll to 30 during this year’s pilgrimage.

Srinagar: In the south Kashmir Himalayas, the death toll of Amarnath pilgrims has risen to 30, with three more fatalities reported recently. The deceased individuals, hailing from Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan, included an ITBP officer, a sadhu, and a sevadar. While two pilgrims died due to cardiac arrest, the cause of the third death is yet to be determined, according to officials. Two deaths occurred on the Pahalgam route, and one on the Baltal route during the yatra. Cardiac arrest, triggered by low oxygen levels at high altitudes, remains a prevalent cause of death among Amarnath pilgrims and the security personnel stationed there.

Pilgrims Flock to Ice Lingam:

Since the pilgrimage began on July 1, over 2.30 lakh pilgrims have visited the cave shrine to witness the natural ice lingam formation. The annual 62-day yatra takes place in the 3,888-meter-high cave shrine, with twin tracks leading from Pahalgam in Anantnag district and Baltal in Ganderbal district. The pilgrimage is scheduled to conclude on August 31.
