Surprise Appearance of Terrorist Yasin Malik in SC Raises Concerns; No Order for His Presence, Virtual Mode Available
New Delhi: On Friday, the Supreme Court was taken aback when Terrorist Yasin Malik, the commander of the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), appeared before it. The court noted that there was no order from the Top Court requiring him to appear in person. The Central government also expressed concern about his physical appearance in the Supreme Court.

Yasin Malik’s Surprising Court Appearance
Yasin Malik, presently serving a life sentence in Tihar Jail for his involvement in a terror funding case, unexpectedly appeared in court for a CBI plea against a Jammu court order. The Centre’s Solicitor General, Tushar Mehta, clarified that there was no court order requiring Yasin Malik’s physical presence, as the Ministry of Home Affairs had instructed not to bring him out of jail.

His presence in court raised serious security concerns, noted by Additional Solicitor General SV Raju. Despite this, the Supreme Court recused itself from hearing the matter, acknowledging the absence of an order for Yasin Malik’s appearance. The court highlighted the availability of virtual modes for court proceedings.
CBI Appeals, SC Reschedules
The case will be relisted before a different bench, excluding Justice Datta. The CBI appealed against the Jammu Court’s order for Yasin Malik’s physical presence in connection to two cases, involving the killing of four Indian Air Force personnel and the abduction of Rubaiya Sayeed in 1989. The Supreme Court had earlier stayed the Jammu Court’s order.
