Heavy Rains Devastate Telangana and Andhra Pradesh: Over 20 Dead, Flooding Worsens
Over 20 dead in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh as heavy rains continue. Flooding worsens, red alerts issued, and NDRF teams deployed for rescue operations.
Heavy Rains Claim Over 20 Lives in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, NDRF Deployed Amid Flooding Crisis
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has harshly warned the residents of the Telangana and Andhra Pradesh states that they should prepare for more rainfall in several districts. Heavy rains have since continued to wreak havoc across the two states, has since claimed the lives of more than 20 people and is worsening.

As many as nine people were killed due to rain related mishaps in Telangana, said, revenue minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy. The worst affected districts are Suryapet, Bhadrachalam, Mahbubabad and Khammam where the officials have to shift people from villages that were flooded. In Hyderabad there have been serious floods due to heavy down pour and most of the schools across the district closed on September 2. The situation is even worst in Khammam where many people were left perched on roof tops due to flooding of their houses.
According to IMD, Red alert has been sounded in other Telangana districts of Adilabad, Nizamabad and Mahabubnagar as very heavy rain is expected. Similarly Andhra Pradesh too is preparing for more rain, which is likely to be heavy in Srikakulam and Kakinada divisions. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said that both Vijayawada and Guntur are completely flooded now with vital national highways under water. More than 17,000 people including children and the elderly have been shifted to safer places like relief camps, vast areas of agricultural and horticultural crops have also been damaged.

The Union home minister Amit Shah has assured both the states the whole-hearted support of the central government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also assured the same. At present, twenty six teams of Nation Disaster Response Force has already been mobilized for the rescue operation but more teams are being airlifted to the area as the region is still reeling from the impact of monsoon.
