Australia Makes Historic Move with First Combat Aircraft Deployment for ‘Tarang Shakti’ Exercise in Jodhpur, Strengthening Indo-Australian Defense Ties
In a historic decision, RAAF is fighting its combat aircraft to undertake the second phase of Tarang Shakti, a big biennial multiparty air force exercise is going on at the Air Force Station Jodhpur from August 30 to September 13. It is the first time the Australian combat aircraft are participating in the event, which shows that the defense cooperation between Australia and India has reached a new level.

This important exercise has seen the RAAF dispatch three EA-18G Growler of the No 6 Squadron and up to 120 personnel. The multinational exercise is also supported by such countries as United States, UAE, Japan, Sri Lanka, Greece and Singapore and it reflects the worsening of the international cooperation between militaries. PRO Australia’s defense department says that this is the first time when India has hosted Exercise Tarang Shakti with 11 member nations and 18 partner nations as observers.
Chief of Air Force, Air Marshal Stephen Chappell mentioned, ‘participation in Tarang Shakti 24 proves Australia’s commitment in terms of working towards the issues of mutual security and assisting regional allies. India is in the first tier of Australia’s security partners, and our CSP entails deeper cooperation to promote the stability of the Indo-Pacific region, Chappell added. It appears that he underlined the fact that it demonstrates the superb skills of Australia and strengthening of interest and cooperation with other nations with regard to understanding the possible scenario of tactical actions.

The Australian defense department also pointed out the event as the further intensification of air defense relations between the States. this includes previous interactions like hosting Indian Air Force Flankers as part of the exercise Pitch Black in 2018, 2022, and 2024 besides operating joint drills with Indian Navy P-8 Neptune surveillance aircrafts. The Australian government feels that its defense ties needs to be further enhanced and India’s proactive role in providing security to the region must be encouraged. The recently concluded first phase of ‘Tarang Shakti,’ was held in Tamil Nadu and involved participants from the UK, Germany, Spain, and France pointing towards the exercise’s global reach.
