Tragedy struck at Chennai Port as a devastating fire engulfed an oil tanker during repair work, claiming the life of Sahaya Thangaraj and leaving Joshua, Rajesg, and Pushpalingam injured. The workers, using a gas cutter near the engine, inadvertently ignited a pipeline, sparking the fatal incident, as shared by a senior police official.
Tragedy at Chennai Port
Sahaya Thangaraj, hailing from Tondiarpet, lost his life on the spot, while the injured were swiftly rushed to Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital for treatment. The vessel, which had entered Chennai Port for repairs on October 30, became the epicentre of a tragic event. Harbour police have initiated an investigation into the fire, registering a case.

Meanwhile, in a parallel incident at a warehouse near a petrol pump on Shibpur Forsa Road in West Bengal’s Howrah district, a fire erupted. Quick action by firefighters, utilizing 4-5 jets and 12 fire engines, contained the blaze. Deputy Director Shyam Chandra Mandal expressed hope of extinguishing the fire within 30-35 minutes. Fortunately, no injuries or casualties have been reported at the scene.
