Supreme Court YouTube Channel Restored After Hack, Live Streaming of Constitution Bench Hearings Resumes to Enhance Public Access to Judicial Processes
The Supreme Court of India informed Friday that its YouTube channel has been restored. It is stated that the same had been temporarily suspended due to hacking. The Supreme Court confirmed in a statement, “The YouTube channel of the Supreme Court of India is live and up. The services have been resumed.”

Earlier hackers took over the channel and broadcast videos that were pitching a cryptocurrency of a US company. The channel was known as “Ripple,” and they uploaded a video entitled “Brad Garlinghouse: Ripple Responds To The SEC’s $2 Billion Fine! XRP PRICE PREDICTION.” Other than this, the hackers made all the live-streamed hearings private.

It had begun streaming live important hearings, including Constitution Bench, as part of its e-initiative efforts. Using artificial intelligence and natural language processing technology, it also provided live transcription for hearings of national significance. Matters such as NEET-UG, R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital suo moto case became some of the extremely hot cases in the eyes of public attention on the platform.

This live streaming initiative traces its roots back to a 2018 ruling by the Supreme Court in Swapnil Tripathi, where it preferred openness as the court was allowed to live broadcast important proceedings. In August 2023, Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud declared that dedicated cloud software had been designed for virtual hearings across courts in India and also came out with the fact that the judiciary was very eager to take forward the eCourts projects while making justice easily accessible to people.
