Due to concerns about law and order, including calls for protest from multiple organizations, the Delhi Police has prohibited gatherings of five people or more, as well as those carrying banners, placards, arms, and/or participating in protests in the city’s center and surrounding regions until October 5.
Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, called the action “unacceptable”. “It is deplorable that Sonam Wangchuk ji and hundreds of Ladakhis were detained while peacefully protesting for their constitutional rights and the environment. Why are senior persons being held at the border with Delhi for advocating for the future of Ladakh?” Rahul said.
Wangchuk said several vehicles of Delhi Police and Haryana Police were accompanying their buses and while they initially thought they were being escorted, as they approached the national capital, it was clear they were going to be detained.
