A red alert was issued for six districts in Uttarakhand due to heavy rainfall, causing waterlogging in areas like Rishikesh. Tragedy struck Jadon village in Himachal Pradesh’s Solan, where a cloudburst claimed seven lives, washing away two houses and a cowshed. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) warned of heavy rain in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, with isolated places likely to experience extremely intense spells.

IMD’s forecast indicated the possibility of very heavy to extremely heavy rain/thunderstorms accompanied by lightning in Dehradun, Pauri, Tehri, Nainital, Champawat, and Udham Singh Nagar within 24 hours. Similarly, parts of Himachal Pradesh, including Bilaspur, Chamba, Hamirpur, Kangra, and Kullu, were expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall.

Rain Tragedies:
Himachal Pradesh’s Chief Minister expressed condolences over the tragic loss in Solan and assured support for the affected families. Devastation unfolded in Uttarakhand as the Dehradun Defence College building collapsed amidst relentless rainfall. Himachal Pradesh faced significant rainfall in a span of 24 hours, resulting in landslides and road closures, including the Shimla-Chandigarh route.

Uttarakhand reported 52 rain-related deaths and 37 injuries, coupled with landslides and flash floods. Vehicles were buried under debris on the Badrinath highway in Chamoli district. The monsoon season inflicted damages worth around ₹650 crore in Uttarakhand. State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) teams were deployed in affected areas, and helicopters were placed on standby.
Heavy rainfall also led to flood-like conditions in Himachal Pradesh’s Balh Valley, leaving tourists stranded. Authorities cautioned against unnecessary travel, especially at night in landslide-prone areas due to hidden dangers.
